History Of WordCamp Nepal

It all began in 2012 when Nepal welcomed its very first WordCamp. The WordPress community in Nepal had already been holding smaller meetups, but this was more significant. The worldwide WordPress community usually gathered annually in San Francisco, but Nepal was ready to join the global stage. The inaugural WordCamp Nepal 2012 on November 10, 2012, in Kathmandu City marked a significant milestone. During the opening remarks, the event even had a surprise visit from Matt Mullenweg, the co-founder of WordPress! Philip Arthur Moore from Automattic also made a whirlwind visit, all for the love of WordPress.

The tradition continued to flourish with subsequent WordCamps:

Up until 2015, the events were known as WordCamp Nepal. However, in 2016, WordCamp Kathmandu was introduced to encourage smaller communities across the country. This marked the beginning of a new chapter:

The year 2018 was a big one, with WordCamps organized in three different cities:

In 2019, the WordCamp fever continued to spread across the nation:

The year 2020 brought challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in only one WordCamp:

With the resilience of the WordPress community, WordCamps resumed after the pandemic:

And now, in 2024, we’re gearing up for WordCamp Nepal 2024, set to take place on January 12-13, 2024, at Hotel Pokhara Grande, Pokhara, Nepal, with the exciting slogan “WordPress reimagined at the top of the World!” It’s a journey marked by WordPress enthusiasm, community collaboration, and unbridled excitement.
