Signing Off with Gratitude and Inspiration

Namaste everyone,

As we conclude WordCamp Nepal 2025, held on April 4th and 5th at Kundalini Durbar Banquet, Chandol, Kathmandu, my heart is filled with immense pride, nostalgia, and gratitude. What an extraordinary journey this has been!

This year’s theme, “Connect, Contribute, and Celebrate,” truly captured the spirit of our event. Whether it was thoughtful hallway conversations, meaningful contributions during sessions, or the joy we shared on the dance floor at the after-party, WordCamp Nepal 2025 was a beautiful testament to the strength and unity of our WordPress community.

From full-house sessions and buzzing sponsor booths to a Contributor Day that ran smoothly as scheduled, especially in the FSE, Plugin, and Theme teams, it’s clear the WordPress community in Nepal is stronger, more vibrant, and more united than ever. The enthusiasm and collaboration throughout the event were truly inspiring and exceptional.

And here’s something to celebrate: #WCNP was the #1 trending topic in Nepal on both X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook during the event! A big round of applause to our Communications Team for keeping the online buzz alive and reflecting the soul of the event so brilliantly.

Honoring Our Roots

Before we look ahead, let us remember those who laid the foundation for what we celebrate today.

WordCamp Nepal began in 2012, led by our visionary and beloved late Ujwal Thapa, a true pioneer in Nepal’s open-source movement.

  • In WordCamp Nepal 2013, the event was led by Chandra Maharzan
  • In WordCamp Nepal 2014 & 2015, Sakin Shrestha took the lead and elevated the experience further

Following that, WordPress Nepal embraced a decentralized approach, organizing local WordCamps in Bharatpur, Butwal, Biratnagar, Pokhara, and Kathmandu, nurturing regional communities.

Recent milestones include:

  • WordCamp Nepal 2022 – Bharatpur: Suvash Khadka (Global Lead) & Bikash Pun (Local Lead)
  • WordCamp Nepal 2024 – Pokhara: Yam B. Chhetri (Global Lead) & Nishal Gurung (Local Lead)

At Kathmandu, WordCamp Nepal 2025 I had the immense honor of serving as the Global Lead, alongside the ever-dedicated Regan Khadgi as Co-Lead, and we were backed by an exceptional team of 30 Organizers and 29 Volunteers who poured their hearts into every detail.

Let’s take a moment to applaud all of them for their selfless commitment.

Heartfelt Gratitude

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made WordCamp Nepal 2025 truly unforgettable:

  • To our Partners (Media, Internet, Payment, and Venue) – Your professionalism and reliability ensured everything ran seamlessly.
  • To our Volunteers and Organizers – Your tireless dedication behind the scenes, countless hours of effort, and sleepless nights kept everything running smoothly. You are the true heartbeat of this event.
  • To our Attendees – Your presence, energy, and participation brought the WordPress community to life.

A special thank you to our WordCamp Central Mentors:

  • Devin Maeztri
  • Pooja Derashri
  • Mainul Kabir Aion
Your mentorship was invaluable throughout our journey.

In Loving Memory of Ujwal Thapa

This year, we honored our co-founding member, Late Ujwal Thapa, through the Ujwal Thapa Memorial Scholarship, awarding 3 scholarships to individuals who exemplify his passion for open-source, community, and contribution.

Looking Ahead

WordCamp Nepal 2025 might be closing, but our journey is far from over. Let’s carry this momentum forward to WordCamp Asia 2026, and beyond.

Next Destination: Butwal
We are thrilled to announce that WordCamp Nepal 2026 will be hosted in Butwal, led by:

  • Rakesh Lawaju as Global Lead
  • Krishna Neupane as Local Lead

With their leadership and the passion of the local WordPress community, we’re confident that Butwal will carry the spirit of WordCamp forward and elevate the experience to even greater heights.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being a part of something truly special. You made WordCamp Nepal 2025 unforgettable!

With gratitude and community spirit,
Surendra Shrestha
