The history of WordCamp in Nepal is a tribute to the passion, collaboration, and growth of the WordPress community in the country. It all began on November 10, 2012, when Nepal hosted its very first WordCamp in Kathmandu City. Although smaller WordPress meetups were already a tradition, this event marked Nepal\u2019s entry into the global WordCamp family. The inaugural WordCamp Nepal 2012<\/a> was an extraordinary milestone, with a message from Matt Mullenweg<\/a>, the co-founder of WordPress, and Philip Arthur Moore from Automattic<\/a>, who traveled across the globe to support the Nepali community\u2019s love for WordPress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From that day, the WordPress community in Nepal has only grown stronger. In 2013, the second WordCamp Nepal<\/a> was held at Yalamaya Kendra, Patan Dhoka, followed by subsequent editions in 2014<\/a> and 2015<\/a> at the same venue and later at Staff College, Jawalakhel. These events solidified the national WordPress community and became a platform for learning, networking, and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new chapter began in 2016, when the concept of city-based WordCamp<\/strong>s emerged. The first WordCamp Kathmandu<\/a> was held to encourage smaller communities across the country to host their own events. It was followed by WordCamp Kathmandu 2017<\/a>, and in 2018<\/a>, Nepal saw WordPress energy reach new heights, with WordCamps organized in three cities: Kathmandu<\/a>, Pokhara<\/a>, and Biratnagar<\/a>. WordCamp Nepal has started to see 30 to even 40% International Speakers, and around 20% International attendees from neighboring countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The enthusiasm continued to spread in 2019, with WordCamps held in Kathmandu<\/a>, Pokhara,<\/a> and Bharatpur<\/a>. However, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 brought unforeseen challenges, limiting WordCamp activities that year to a single event in Butwal<\/a>. Yet, even the pandemic couldn\u2019t dampen the spirit of the WordPress community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the pandemic, WordCamps resumed in full swing with WordCamp Kathmandu 2022<\/a> and WordCamp Nepal<\/a>, held in Bharatpur later that year\u2014the first national level WordCamp outside of Kathmandu. The event brought together contributors, developers, and enthusiasts from across the country to celebrate the power of WordPress. In 2023, the tradition continued with WordCamp Kathmandu<\/a>, setting the stage for even greater milestones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we now look ahead to WordCamp Nepal 2025, it\u2019s impossible to ignore the growth and vibrancy of the WordPress community in Nepal. From the first WordCamp in 2012 to the nationwide event in 2022 and the recent successful WordCamp Nepal 2024 in Pokhara<\/a>\u2014the largest WordCamp in Nepal with around 1000 attendees, the journey has been nothing short of inspiring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
