About wordcamp nepal

The history of WordCamp in Nepal is a tribute to the passion, collaboration, and growth of the WordPress community in the country. It all began on November 10, 2012, when Nepal hosted its very first WordCamp in Kathmandu City. Although smaller WordPress meetups were already a tradition, this event marked Nepal’s entry into the global WordCamp family.

What is a WordCamp actually?

WordCamp is a community conference focused on WordPress, the open-source platform that powers around 43% of websites worldwide. These events go beyond WordPress itself, covering internet technologies, digital professions, and best practices for building and managing websites.

Organised in over 120 countries, WordCamps are supported by the WordPress Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to protecting the openness of WordPress and its trademark. WordCamp Nepal, like others, is officially approved and recognised by WordCamp Central and the WordPress Foundation.

Who is WordCamp for?

WordCamps are open and inclusive events designed for anyone with an interest in WordPress and the wider web. Whether you are just starting out or an experienced professional, you’ll find valuable sessions, discussions, and connections.

WordCamps cover a wide range of topics including design, development, blogging, content creation, social media, digital marketing, startups, and e-commerce. Past presentations show just how diverse the knowledge shared can be.

WordCamp brings together the latest developments in WordPress, while also providing a space for networking and business growth. Attendees include web developers, designers, bloggers, journalists, content editors, social media managers, store owners, SEO specialists, digital marketers, students, and many others.

Everyone is welcome regardless of background, gender, ethnicity, or ability. WordCamps follow the official WordPress Code of Conduct and maintain high standards for diversity, inclusion, and accessibility to ensure a positive experience for all.

Who is organizing it?

WordCamp Nepal 2026 is proudly organised by dedicated volunteers from the Nepal WordPress community. The organising team is made up of passionate community members who share responsibilities to make this event possible. You can meet them all on our Organisers page and we extend our heartfelt thanks for their invaluable contributions.

In 2025, Kathmandu hosted WordCamp Nepal, rekindling the flame of WordPress energy in the region and paving the way for an even bigger and brighter WordCamp Nepal 2026.

How is it financed?

WordCamp Nepal is made possible through the generous support of the global WordPress community and local partners. The WordPress Foundation plays a key role, with funding provided in part by official global sponsors and supporters of the Foundation. The event is also partly funded by domestic financial donations or service offerings from companies operating in Nepal.

For this reason, previous WordCamps like 2025 created sponsorship packages, from which interested party can choose the package they want to support the conference. These packages are rewarding and can bring a sponsor one step closer to the WordPress audience.

Finally, WordCamp is also supported by its ticket sales. Every attendee plays a role in making the event a reality by contributing through their ticket purchase.

The Journey of WordCamp in Nepal: At a Glance!

The inaugural WordCamp Nepal 2012 was an extraordinary milestone, with a message from Matt Mullenweg, the co-founder of WordPress, and Philip Arthur Moore from Automattic, who traveled across the globe to support the Nepali community’s love for WordPress.

From that day, the WordPress community in Nepal has only grown stronger. In 2013, the second WordCamp Nepal was held at Yalamaya Kendra, Patan Dhoka, followed by subsequent editions in 2014 and 2015 at the same venue and later at Staff College, Jawalakhel. These events solidified the national WordPress community and became a platform for learning, networking, and innovation.

A new chapter began in 2016, when the concept of city-based WordCamps emerged. The first WordCamp Kathmandu was held to encourage smaller communities across the country to host their own events. It was followed by WordCamp Kathmandu 2017, and in 2018, Nepal saw WordPress energy reach new heights, with WordCamps organized in three cities: KathmanduPokhara, and Biratnagar. Since then, WordCamp Nepal has grown into a truly international event, attracting 30–40% international speakers and around 20% attendees from neighbouring countries.

The enthusiasm continued to spread in 2019, with WordCamps held in KathmanduPokhara, and Bharatpur. However, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 brought unforeseen challenges, limiting WordCamp activities that year to a single event in Butwal. Yet, even the pandemic couldn’t dampen the spirit of the WordPress community.
