From Blank Page to First Break: A Beginner’s Guide to Launching Your UI/UX Path

Ajit KC

Breaking into UI/UX doesn’t start with a perfect portfolio; it starts with a clear first step. This session translates a real, beginner-friendly journey into a simple plan you can copy. Attendees learn a focused approach to go from “I don’t know where to start” to “I shipped my first case study.”

We’ll begin with the five non-negotiables that make any interface feel professional: visual hierarchy, grids & spacing, typography, color contrast, and consistent components—explained in plain language, with quick before/after examples. Then we’ll turn principles into action with a three-part starter path:

Skill: pick one goal (e.g., readable form, clear navigation) and a tiny brief.

Project: design a small flow (signup, checkout, or dashboard card), and run a 20-minute think-aloud test with 3–5 users.

Proof: convert notes into a one-page case study using a finding-fixes matrix, basic metrics (completion rate, errors, time-on-task), and a concise narrative.

We’ll also cover common beginner pitfalls (busy layouts, low contrast, unclear states). The session closes with a compact 30/60/90 roadmap (skill focus + one project + one proof per sprint) and practical next steps for opportunities: community posts, outreach etiquette, and how to talk about impact without exaggeration.
