WordCamp Nepal 2022 announces Ujwal Thapa memorial scholarship. This scholarship provides funding to 7 eligible candidates who want to attend WordCamp Nepal.

Who was Ujwal Thapa?

Ujwal Thapa, this name might not be new for many of us but for those who don’t know, he was an aspiring leader, an entrepreneur, a visionary thinker, a politician, and an IT enthusiast. He started and led numerous notable initiatives for the betterment of society and people, and one of them is founding the WordPress Nepal community. 

Ujwal Thapa along with Sakin Shrestha and Chandra Maharjan founded the WordPress Nepal group back in 2010. Ever since, the group has been growing by leaps and bounds, and today it has over 8600 members. 

It won’t be wrong if we say Thapa was one of those who introduced WordPress community and WordCamp to Nepal. He along with his team hosted the first ever WordCamp Nepal in 2012. He always wanted to grow this community stronger and bigger and create more opportunities. His contributions and commitments to WordPress Nepal are invaluable and unmatchable. 

In June 2021, Ujwal Thapa succumbed to COVID-19 infection and left an irreplaceable void in the community. Though his physical presence is not here with us, we’ll forever treasure his memories and good deeds. Therefore, to keep his legacy alive and to honour his contribution to the WordPress Nepal community, we announce the Ujwal Thapa memorial scholarship that provides funding to 7 people who want to attend WordCamp Nepal and need financial assistance. 

Scholarship Details:

• A total of 7 people will receive the scholarship.
• For the recipient outside the host city, the scholarship will cover the cost of the event ticket, transportation during the event.
• For the recipient from the host city, the scholarship will cover the event ticket.
• The scholarship will be awarded by WordCamp Nepal 2022 team and Ujwal Thapa Foundation so they reserve all the rights to the final decision.
• We’ll reach out to the recipient once the selection is done.

Criteria:

• Is a WordPress contributor or is interested in WordPress.
• Has never attended WordCamp before.
• Requires financial assistance to attend.
