A Scholarship in Memory of a Community Builder
As we prepare to welcome everyone to WordCamp Nepal 2027 in Nepalgunj, we are happy to share that the Ujwal Thapa Memorial Scholarship will continue this year. It is our small way of remembering the late Ujwal Thapa, co-founder of the WordPress Nepal community, who gave so much of himself to open-source, learning, and bringing people together. Because of his kindness and vision, our community has grown to more than 18,000 members.
He believed that everyone deserves a place at the table. This scholarship carries that belief forward, with open arms for WordPress enthusiasts who may find it hard to attend because of financial or geographic challenges.
What the Scholarship Offers
Each scholar will be warmly supported with:
- Free entry to both days of WordCamp Nepal 2027, including sessions, workshops, contributor activities, and time to connect with others.
- Bus travel support (return ticket included) from anywhere within Nepal to Nepalgunj, and 3 nights/4 days of accommodation with meals, for scholars traveling from outside Nepalgunj.
- The chance to meet, learn from, and be inspired by WordPress professionals, contributors, and community leaders.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
We are offering 5 scholarships this year, and we would love to receive your application if you:
- Are a Nepali residing in Nepal
- Care about WordPress and its community
- Would need some financial support to attend
- Live in a rural or underrepresented part of Nepal, if possible
- Are excited to learn, share, and grow with the community
A Gentle Request
This scholarship exists for those who truly need it. If you are currently working or are in a comfortable financial position and can manage the cost of attending, we kindly encourage you to leave this opportunity for someone who needs it more. Your understanding means a lot, and it could open the door for a student or a learner who would not otherwise be able to join us. You are always warmly welcome to attend WordCamp Nepal 2027 with a regular ticket and be part of the community.
